How many of us out there do what our managers ask us to do? Are there people out there who purposefully defy what their boss instructs you? Unfortunately, there are people out there who simply can not follow directions. There are people out there who choose to go their own path. Sometimes it just has to do with doing something different than the norm. As a business owner, you have to find a way to keep things flowing in your workplace and ensure that you are being efficient and productive. At the same time, you need to find a way to make your workplace fun again.
In property management, you as the manager or business owner need to find a way keep things fresh and build the morale of the people that work for you. It is not always easy to find ways to spice up a day in which the people know they will be coming in doing the same tasks all day. When involved in your own business, you have to think to yourself, how can you motivate your staff to show up to work, day in and day out?
There are some companies that are going to have to make some changes to their structure. Sometimes when involved in property management, you have to make the occasional changes. The changes you have to make have to be made in order to make things more efficient and also to promote the creativity and fun within your environment. The more efficient your company is, the more the bottom line will grow. There are even some companies that try to determine who the next people in line for promotions are and start preparing them for the next level. If you think about it, how motivated will your staff be if they know that you are taking personal stock in their development?
So what are you doing within your own property management structure? How are you separating yourself from your competition? Is your company big enough to where you could have competitions with each other to see who can have the lowest vacancy percent? Or is it a small business in which you might just be able to have a competition within your four walls trying to see who the best sales person is? These are just examples of how some companies are trying to drive results and create a fun atmosphere. Maybe in your structure, there are people who do not like competition. Competition is not a motivator for them. You have to understand your people and find out what they like to do and incorporate that into your property management structure. When trying to do that, you also have to figure out how to tie that motivation into a result.
Within your own property management structures, what are you doing to create a buzz or stir up the fury of the mundane workplace? It is common that after some companies go after trying to promote an exciting workplace, their numbers are up, and so is the morale of the staff. It will always be up to you on what you will do to stay on top and get your staff on your path to success. Motivating your staff and creating excitement are just a couple of the hats most of you have to wear as a business owner. A motivated and excited staff does extremely well for business.
